With the help of my then
boyfriend and now husband, Joel, in June of 1999, I competed
in my first obstacle course competition: The Galaxy. I
placed 7th out of over 100 competitors on the obstacle
course, but my swimwear ranking of 20 something wasn’t

year and still didn’t make it into the top15. I
was very disappointed, but even then, I knew I would train
harder and come back in 2000 with a vengeance.
Joel adjusted my training program to include more mental
imagery and in August of 2000, I competed in and won the
Texas Grand Prix Galaxy event. I knew that I had what
it took to win, and my hard work paid off. I then set
my sights on winning the international championship title
of 2000 Ms. Galaxy. I trained vigorously from August |
